This drawing is so bad, I'm reluctant to put it up... I'm still futzing with pens. I tried a couple Uniball's (Vision Elites, the .5 and .8) and a Staedtler .7. I still need something skinnier. Using bigger paper is not option right now, until I get a better scanner.
I just happened to be reading Harold and the Purple Crayon to Leaf tonight... so this is what I draw. My brother also reminded me of the Simon cartoon, where the things he draws come true." Seems appropriate for Obama. I was going to put two side characters watching with one saying, "Do you think it is real?" and the other one saying, "Who cares." But too tired...
Tim sent me some great advice which really got me thinking of ways to improve my fills and contrast... Once I figure out the pen situation and generate a new font, I want to concentrate on getting a string of good cartoons - 5 or 6 good ones in a row that I could possibly get published. Maybe I will get time this weekend.

Quick and dirty... I had a lot more ambitious ideas for this cartoon, but felt desparate to get something up. I'm experimenting with new pens and back-n-forth on the font... Also spoke a lot with Tim about how to better evolve the art and hope to improve based on some of his ideas. I will go into it in more depth soon.

Quick attempt at using my new font. It is a bit bold (I only made a bold version and it took a lot of time). For now, it will have to work. I can do some things in PS to lighten it, which may help.
I took a break for a few days while making the font. Have a list of improvments I need to make to take these cartoons to the next level.
1. New/better pens. I'm down to my last RoseArt Target special. I go through them too fast and they are not fine-tipped enough.
2. Draw on bigger paper. Allow more detail.
3. No half-baked attempts.
4. Contrast... More scribbles. Maybe another pen (but not the sharpie.. it is too big. Both my brother and Tim mentioned this as a problem.)
5. More time!
